How we do Team Work as a Family

As some of you know; there are 3 of us in the family all working online.
I get ask all the time, what we all do. We all have our own sites and we also have ‘family’ projects.

Like any other family or business, we all have different things we are good at and we each do our part.
We started another new site last week so; I thought I would share a bit of how we did it.

Usually one of us sees a product that we think might be a good seller. I take some of the keywords/phrases and start pumping them into Market Samurai (my favorite keyword tool).
IF we see that the product shows promise, I dig down through the keyphrase’s. I won’t go into the details of the research but, some of our ideas are great, others suck.

If we think we are going to go for it, Brad and I start looking for sites that offer an affiliate program for our chosen product.
See so far Cait has gotten off easy on this new project. ;)

Now we have our phrases, signed up with affiliates, and Brad has talked to the owners of the affiliate programs we have decided to go with.

I pull out the possible keywords/phrase; Brad goes in and starts looking for domains. Once he finds one that fits in the Samurai phrases it is bought and loaded.

Brad does the upload of templates, customizes themes, and ask me if it looks ok. I of course have no clue if they look ok so, he gets Cait to work with him on design. Anything like headers, banners, buttons… I let them have at it. I know nothing about colors, pictures, or CSS.

Once the site is online, I start doing more with picking the key phrases such as tags and meta descriptions. I also make sure we have all the settings for RSS, URL’s, and any other piddlie site set up. I also get emails set up for that project.

Brad is busy manipulating and uploading pictures. He titles the picture, writes a mini description, has the links to the product (on the affiliate site) and the link to the picture. From there he skypes them to Cait to get them ready to post.

Now we need product descriptions. On our most recent site, Cait has been writing those. She has a way of writing that pulls extra searches in. God bless her! For this site Cait has the best perspective about the product. Whoever can explain the product best gets the descriptions job.

Once Cait gets a few descriptions done she skypes them to me. I start posting the pictures with the proper descriptions and affiliate links. I also do the tags, titles, and internal linking.

In between posting, I go and make sure the RSS Feeds are getting picked up and start building some easy incoming links.

With this last site we have several types of the same product so, it has been ongoing for each of us.

The site started 1 week ago and is getting incoming searches. Not exactly the ones I am going for but, we have a good bit of competition. I know we need a little time to get up to the top. We do have the benefit of knowing that our competition has shitty descriptions, their backlinks have allot of bad anchor text, and they don’t have Brad and Cait to help them. :D

I can not imagine people could do all of this alone. It takes all 3 of us to get good results. Now the list of jobs above is how we are doing this latest project. Most time our jobs are the same no matter what we are doing but, it is subject to a little bit of change.

Our outsourcing is basically done a crossed the kitchen table or as far away as the couch.

If one of our other sites needs something then one of us just goes and does it. Heck we are all within yelling distance so, help is never far away.

So there is a little look inside the workings of our family team.

Forgive me for asking a stupid question. You guys all live in the same house right? Assuming the answer is yes, what's the deal with all the skyping. The only answer I can come up with is that you've bought a mansion with the all the money you've made from affiliate marketing and it takes way to long to go from one room to another.

Still, it sounds like you have a great production line going. How about sharing a link to this new site of yours. I know that wasn't the point of the post, but I'm interested to see how it all turned out.

What an interesting way to bring the entire family into the internet marketing process. It also teaches Cait how to make money for the long term. Good for you!

What a funny reading. I do all the tasks alone. It is good to go through all the steps and learn all the tricks. But when your business grows it is better to split tasks to bo more productive. The way you describe you can put into life few micro niches per day :)

Sire,
Yes we are all close enough together to talk, see each other...Just not so close that we can slap each other. ;-)

Using Skype is the easiest way to send word docs or entire files. Since Brad, Cait, and I all file things differently on our computers, we each get our own "copy" that we can easily get to on our own machine. I can also send Cait a link to an article that might be useful and she can pick it up when she gets online...We live on Skype.

Hi Mitch!
Cait doesn't want to sell burgers and french fries. She works on task with Brad and I both and will be much more rounded in her abilities.
She has also gotten to see our mistakes and won't have to make the same ones.

@Spacetime, I sure could never get things done as well on my own. I am so artistically challenged that none of my sites would have anything but, standard themes and buttons.

Onna! No you can't have Brad... Well, someday's I would give him away but, only until I needed him to do something for me. 8)

I am glad he can help you. We all need people to bounce ideas off of or do task that we just don't get. I would be totally lost without being able to use other peoples brains. ;)
