ooVoo May Be Better Than Skype

What is ooVoo?
It is a video chat site. No, not like you may think. You can use it somewhat like skype to talk with friends. It does have better face to face video capabilities than skype. The sound is also much clearer. File transfer is really fast.

With a free account

**You can have up to 3 people in the chat whether voice or text.

**You can also send files through it. That means if you are talking with someone and would like to send them a copy of that document it is just a simple click.

**You can also leave a 1 minute voice message for someone if they are away from their computer or not logged in. I was amazed at the sound quality.

**You can accept or deny anyone that asks to chat. Most times no one can find you unless you have given them your username or email address.

**You can also list your contacts in Groups. I have added Cait in my Favorites, this way people that I contact often will be on top rather than sorting through to find them.

**Side Bar option, you can have a side bar with your contacts that will stay on top of your web page on the right hand side then you do not have to open ooVoo to look for the person just click and call.

**If you have a contacts that you would like to put in touch with each other it is very simple. No more sending them off on a search.

**They also have several types and colors of ooVoo badges. All you need to do is put in your ooVoo username, pick the badge you would like, choose email or web page code, click and you have a super cool ooVoo Me badge.

**Pick if you would like to have a static picture or if you want to use your cam while chatting.

**Set your ooVoo to log in automatically when you go online.

**Privacy settings are all very simple. Anyone can call, only contacts, or only people that know your username or email.

**Make a short video message and send it to your contacts ALSO you can send it it email contacts that do not have ooVoo! They do not have to join to see the message! How cool is that??? Super cool!

Of Course they have an upgrade for $10 a month
This will allow you to have a video chat with up to 6 people at a time.
Unlimited recording of video calls.
Up to 1,000 minutes of video storage and streaming.
Unlimited video messages.
Up to 5 minutes of video message recording.
Lots of fun video effects.

They also have options if you would like to add phone calls.

So, if you are looking for an easy way to talk with friends, family, or customers, this might be well worth checking out.

I have been watching some of the big names online using this to talk with people so, it’s not just a chat for kids.

Ok, now you can go get the super easy download, install, and then it will give you a screen to set up your account.

ooVoo

As you can see they are offering a few things that make skype look sad. Poor skype - I think they will have to get on the ball with some improvements!

If you have questions about setting up or using Skype, I have a 3 part tutorial to help you Skype Information part 1

UPDATE - Skype has a new version out that includes a few of the things like Screen Sharing and the Video Chat has improved you can see more about it - Skype 4 for Windows

Talk to you soon,
Sheryl Loch

JudySounds good Sheryl, I will have to check it out. I like Skype and have been using it for quite a while. Will have to weigh the pros and cons.

SherylHi Judy,
I do still use skype allot mostly because it is most common with people.
But, you know me - I am not one that just follows the flow. I have to checkout new things.

I think that sometimes people get to comfortable with what they have and forget to look outside of the box.

I am finding a whole new world on the other side of my box walls! LOL!

In fact that is one reason I started the new Marketing Help section to this blog, in hopes I could find a few things people may not have found before.
Maybe I am just addicted to learning new things for myself and try to justify it by saying I am helping others. LOL!

Have a great day. I am off to read around the web for a few hours!

Alex NewellI'd not heard of ooVoo and I got an error message from the tutorial link above .

I don't have a webcam - can I just use voice?

Thanks

Alex

SherylHi Alex,
Sorry they have taken out the tutorial.

Yes, you can just voice. I find that sometimes the voice connection on ooVoo is better than skype.

Thanks for stopping in and sorry about the broken link.

BarrieSo, it is not possible to have one to one video in the free version like Skype? Only voice or text.

Paying for up 10 per month for up to 6 people seems to me that this software is primarily aimed at the business user.

I may try it out, but I probably stay with Skype and free video calls.
