Polling Online Friends for My New Glasses

Ok, gonna try this post again. The blog Gods were mad and I got myself a small site crash and lost the post. If you have commented on this thread before and don’t see it now, try again. ;)

I went to my wonderful eye appointment, got the great news that I would indeed need new glasses.

If you read my previouse post I Dread Getting New Glasses, you will understand my dilemma about picking out new frames. I also said that I had a plan well here it is in action!

sheryl's computer glasses

Since I am old and blind, I am getting 2 new pairs of eye glasses. One set will just be for reading up close and the other pair for wearing out and about when I will need to see in the distance. I have always had just 1 pair so, I just get some sensible frames that will fit every occasion. This time I have already picked out my new Fun frames (see the picture to the left) that I will use just when I am at home looking at a computer screen for hours a day.

Here is were the technology part comes in (that I mentioned in my previous post). We took pictures of a variety of frames that are possibly the ones I would get to wear while out and about. Yes, some are just lovely and others are a bit of fun. Cait was such a great kid and sat up a poll so you all could vote on the new glasses that I will be getting to wear out and about.

I will say that we got some really funny looks while in the frames department. I’m trying on frames and Brad is taking pictures. I thought it seemed completely logical considering that I can not see a freakin thing when I take off my real glasses. I do not see why optometrist offices do not do this themselves. In fact I am going to load up my camera and laptop and charge a small fee to take pics of people trying on new frames, upload them right there, and let them see themselves. I will be Rich, I tell you!

In one picture you see a lady in a white lab coat standing behind me. No, she is not there to put a straight jacket on me. She was the gal helping us in the frames department and was a real sweetheart for putting up with us.

Ok, so here are some of the frames I tried on. You my online friends get to help me with my ‘face make over’. If I can not rely on the friends in my computer than whom can I rely on? Sorry – there is really nothing that can be done about the hair. ;)

You can make your choice and also leave a comment if you want. Beware - if you click on the picture in the poll - it opens up a new picture and my face is huge. Can be a bit scary!

Thanks for helping me out and sorry if I lost your comments, I promise to do a back up every day!!!

I Dread Getting New Glasses

I dread getting Glasses
If I look like crap don’t blame me.

Today is the day of dread. I am deciding the fate of my face with no control over it. Today I am going to get new glasses.

Cait and Brad decided to get me new glasses for Mothers Day and my Birthday. They know I will not do it myself so, they kinda made it a gift so, I have to.

The thing is, I have worn glasses everyday since kindergarten. My glasses are a part of me. I put them on before I get outta bed and they do not come off until I am back in bed. I even swim with them on (hate running into the side of the pool).

Since my glasses truly are a part of my face all day every day I hate picking out new frames. Just think if you just went to the store every few years and got a new nose because the one you have is out of style?

I would have no real problem getting new frames IF I knew what I was getting. I have to take my real glasses off to try on new frames. This means that I can not see! Sure, I can ask Brad how different frames look but, he will just say “If you like them then they look great”. Smart man but, of little help. I can take Cait but, she would let me get something super funky because they are cool. Worse yet, she may just have me get some that are butt ugly and then wait until I get them on with lenses, just to see the expression on my face when I realize I have been ‘punked’. Yes, I have raised a real doll! LOL!

All of this is something that I have gone through most of my life. I do have a plan to ease the pain. I just hope Brad will go along with it. I will be using all the knowledge I have gained about the latest technology. I’ll let ya know how it goes. If it is a hit, then I will be RICH! I will be the Queen! If nothing else, I will still have new glasses!

Sheryl – Soon to be the Queen of the optometrist offices world wide.

If you are not seeing your comment - that is because my site took a shit and I had to go to a back up and it was a few days before this post.

Las Vegas Goes Dark for Earth Hour

Well we did it!

The Las Vegas Strip powered down for Earth Hour.

From where we live on the hill, we could see the Stratosphere go dark and that began the train of lights being shut off down the Strip.

We can not see the Luxor building but the light on the top that shoots straight up – everyone can see for miles away. That is until 8:30 pm for Earth Hour. Then Click, it was gone.

The Vegas Strip has turned off lights in the past for Presidents and other people that have passed away but, only for a few minutes. This was the 1st time they have ever powered off for a complete hour.

Some people were upset that the entire strip did not shut off all the lights, the inside of casino’s, street lights, and other lighting that was necessary for safety were left on. Turning everything off - well that would be stupid in my opinion. You would have massive problems. Thousands of people in the dark.

I watched Twitter search for people using the #earthhour tag. Holy shit!
Some people amaze me. Some of the Tweets I saw were –

‘I refuse to be scammed by the government into shutting off my lights’

‘I told the kids this is the 1 time they can turn on all the lights in the house’

‘I even turned on my flood lights so, I just killed a polar bear’

‘Being a Republican, I will not fall for this @$%$$’

Yes, those are just a few of the stupid comments I saw.

I wonder if these are some of the same people that cry every time they get a power bill and yell at the entire family about ‘how hard they work to pay the bill’?

Maybe they drive a big gas guzzler and whine about the price of fuel? Same people that drive around a parking lot several times to find a spot close to the door so their fat ass can waddle in and buy junk food that they say cost too much.

For those thinking they “won” over big government – LOL! No, they just gave into the power company.

At what cost is it to be rebellious about things?

Do you pick and choose what you take a stand on? Is it something you truly believe is right or is it simply because, you want to appear that you have the balls to take a stand against the popular opinion?

I am betting that most of the people that so adamantly boasted their ‘stand against the man’ are the same ones that will be making sure all unused lights in their house are off today.

Oh yea, I made their tweets green. Thought it was just fitting! LOL!
