Tweet Up or Meet Ups with Real Humans

This year I am going to TRY and get out to meet real live humans in the flesh. I know it sounds crazy. Why leave the house when you can just tweet?

Going out in public is something that I am not real big on. I’ll blame the fact that I have to put on clothes, control my hair, and wear shoes as the main reasons I don’t go out. That sounds much nicer than what I could have said. LOL!

Brad and I have gone to 2 Tweet Ups at the Las Vegas Hilton in the last month and a half. I have had a good time at both.

The 1st Tweet Up was for locals…I met some cool peeps that if not for the meet up I would have never know about. I even had some common interest with a few.

The 2nd Tweet Up was also at the Hilton and was for CES. Since CES was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center (next to the Hilton) – the Tweet Up was packed. A packed room means give me a seat in the corner and tell me to breathe. Better yet, just put me behind the bar and I will be fine.

I immediately found some locals that I recognized and plopped my butt over with them. Since I can’t sit still for more than 20 minutes, I was soon off to have a smoke (go to the bathroom or just wander aimlessly) out in the casino.

As I came back into the Tweet Up, there was Brad, he had been looking for me. Apparently they had called my name and I had won some CES swag – YEAH, I’m a Winner!

Then Brad ask if I knew Chris Brogan was there. Duh, I saw him on my way out. Brad of course wanted to know if I talked to Chris. Let’s think about this – I am about as sociable as a wart on a hogs ass and Chris is a social expert. I really did not want to be a case study for his next blog post titled “How to deal with a recluse”.

Anyhow, Brad convinced me to at least say Hi and introduce myself. Chris was talking to a few other people so we waited patiently. Ok, that was a lie. I was praying someone would pull the fire alarm so I could get the hell out of there. I even tried to stare down some old dude and telepathically send him a distress signal to help. That was a no go, the guy did not even glance at the fire alarm next to him. For a split second I realized I not only suck at being social I also have no telepathic skills….someone shoot me now please.

About the time I had ran every possible escape plan through my mind, I hear Brad say “Chris, this is Sheryl”. NOOOOOOO! It was too late, Operation GTFO was not working.

Ya know what?
Chris was really a nice guy.
He and I had read some of the same blog post and talked about them (or laughed). It was like talking to someone that I had met before. He did not even bite (although that would have made for a killer blog post).

So why all the pictures? Because I needed proof that I left the house. I could have just made my post but, some skeptics would have sworn that I really did not go out. *cough* You skeptics know who you are. ;)

So have you went to a meet up and come face to face with new people?
How many people from Facebook or Twitter have you actually met in person?
Do you even care if you meet any new people in the flesh?

Polling Online Friends for My New Glasses

Ok, gonna try this post again. The blog Gods were mad and I got myself a small site crash and lost the post. If you have commented on this thread before and don’t see it now, try again. ;)

I went to my wonderful eye appointment, got the great news that I would indeed need new glasses.

If you read my previouse post I Dread Getting New Glasses, you will understand my dilemma about picking out new frames. I also said that I had a plan well here it is in action!

sheryl's computer glasses

Since I am old and blind, I am getting 2 new pairs of eye glasses. One set will just be for reading up close and the other pair for wearing out and about when I will need to see in the distance. I have always had just 1 pair so, I just get some sensible frames that will fit every occasion. This time I have already picked out my new Fun frames (see the picture to the left) that I will use just when I am at home looking at a computer screen for hours a day.

Here is were the technology part comes in (that I mentioned in my previous post). We took pictures of a variety of frames that are possibly the ones I would get to wear while out and about. Yes, some are just lovely and others are a bit of fun. Cait was such a great kid and sat up a poll so you all could vote on the new glasses that I will be getting to wear out and about.

I will say that we got some really funny looks while in the frames department. I’m trying on frames and Brad is taking pictures. I thought it seemed completely logical considering that I can not see a freakin thing when I take off my real glasses. I do not see why optometrist offices do not do this themselves. In fact I am going to load up my camera and laptop and charge a small fee to take pics of people trying on new frames, upload them right there, and let them see themselves. I will be Rich, I tell you!

In one picture you see a lady in a white lab coat standing behind me. No, she is not there to put a straight jacket on me. She was the gal helping us in the frames department and was a real sweetheart for putting up with us.

Ok, so here are some of the frames I tried on. You my online friends get to help me with my ‘face make over’. If I can not rely on the friends in my computer than whom can I rely on? Sorry – there is really nothing that can be done about the hair. ;)

You can make your choice and also leave a comment if you want. Beware - if you click on the picture in the poll - it opens up a new picture and my face is huge. Can be a bit scary!

Thanks for helping me out and sorry if I lost your comments, I promise to do a back up every day!!!
