Las Vegas Goes Dark for Earth Hour

Well we did it!

The Las Vegas Strip powered down for Earth Hour.

From where we live on the hill, we could see the Stratosphere go dark and that began the train of lights being shut off down the Strip.

We can not see the Luxor building but the light on the top that shoots straight up – everyone can see for miles away. That is until 8:30 pm for Earth Hour. Then Click, it was gone.

The Vegas Strip has turned off lights in the past for Presidents and other people that have passed away but, only for a few minutes. This was the 1st time they have ever powered off for a complete hour.

Some people were upset that the entire strip did not shut off all the lights, the inside of casino’s, street lights, and other lighting that was necessary for safety were left on. Turning everything off - well that would be stupid in my opinion. You would have massive problems. Thousands of people in the dark.

I watched Twitter search for people using the #earthhour tag. Holy shit!
Some people amaze me. Some of the Tweets I saw were –

‘I refuse to be scammed by the government into shutting off my lights’

ss="MT_green">‘I told the kids this is the 1 time they can turn on all the lights in the house’

‘I even turned on my flood lights so, I just killed a polar bear’

‘Being a Republican, I will not fall for this @$%$$’

Yes, those are just a few of the stupid comments I saw.

I wonder if these are some of the same people that cry every time they get a power bill and yell at the entire family about ‘how hard they work to pay the bill’?

Maybe they drive a big gas guzzler and whine about the price of fuel? Same people that drive around a parking lot several times to find a spot close to the door so their fat ass can waddle in and buy junk food that they say cost too much.

For those thinking they “won” over big government – LOL! No, they just gave into the power company.

At what cost is it to be rebellious about things?

Do you pick and choose what you take a stand on? Is it something you truly believe is right or is it simply because, you want to appear that you have the balls to take a stand against the popular opinion?

I am betting that most of the people that so adamantly boasted their ‘stand against the man’ are the same ones that will be making sure all unused lights in their house are off today.

Oh yea, I made their tweets green. Thought it was just fitting! LOL!

Sandra FoytI was surprised at how even my husband, the guy who's installed energy efficient bulbs throughout the house, was so hostile about Earth Hour. We were at a friend's house for dinner, when we switched to candlelight. It would've been quite lovely if not for hubbie's snarky comments!

OurFoodRecipesIn Indonesia, the 1 hour "lights off" saved the country some $ 250 mio in fuel for the State Electricity Co...Should do more in the future..Cheers
