Twitter for Children at Christmas

I woke up this morning to find a Tweet from @SharonMcPCaits Christmas

Hoping that Twitter moms can create the same type of impact in favor of Toys for Tots as they did against Motrin http://www.toysfortots.org

Now for anyone that was on Twitter the weekend of Nov,15 & 16 you most likely saw hundreds of Moms form a group to let the makers of Motrin know that they did not like an advertisement they felt was degrading. This drew hundreds of blog post and letters encouraging the company to change the ad. This campaign of #motrinmoms drew the attention of people worldwide.

What if we all took that same energy to help out families in need this Christmas?

Can you imagine the lives that could be changed?

No one wants their child to wake up on Christmas morning to no presents. They do not have to!

We have the power to change Christmas for hundred or even thousands of kids this year. We have the chance to bring smiles too faces a crossed the land.

While you are out shopping for your kids, nieces, and nephews why not pick up a couple of extra things and donate them to children that may not otherwise have a gift!
You can find drop off locations, for the Toys for Tots program, in your city at Toys for Tots
If you are not able to find a drop off near you they also accept credit card donations.

Let us give a smile to a family in need this holiday season!

Please leave a comment and let us know that you are spreading the joy of Christmas with a gift from the heart!

#TFC – ‘Twitter for Christmas’ or ‘Twitter for Children’ or ‘Twitter Families Care’ or 'Twitter Family Christmas' – what ever you want to call it! LOL!

To help make this a bit more World Wide I ask if the Ladies of SWBN (Secret Women’s Business Network)would like to nominate a great Charity to help families during the holidays in their countries. They have posted a wonderful article listing their picks. So, be sure to stop over at the SWBN Blog to see their list.
You can find their charity picks for;
Allison is in Australia,
Barb is in Canada,
Lisa has her charity for the UK.

The power of joy is moving across the globe. I hope you will be apart of it.

Just an after thought, if you are shopping online with someone you know then you can buy something extra and not only help out a child but also your favorite IMer.

Thank you! I tried to get some people mobilized yesterday and got almost no response. If people will rally around something, I am glad to tweet and retweet and tweet again. I blogged this and linked you.

Hi Sheryl,

What a super idea!! I do my daily clicks at The animal Rescue Site too. I believe you go there also. They also have a tab to click to help children, literacy, books, animals, the rainforest and breast cancer. If you don't mind me including their URL it is http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com

I hope everyone will go there and help all these sites. They are free and they have attached shopping sites. I am going to buy Christmas items there and help that way too.

Hello Edward,
Thank you for stopping in.

I hope that this season brings people around to an abundance of positive thoughts and actions.

So many families are in need of hope due to job loss... The kids need a break and a bit of joy. I know we can make that happen.

I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday and a super new year.

Thank you,
Sheryl

Hey Heather thank you for also posting on your blog. You have done a great job on your Toys for Tots (Twitter Family Christmas) post.

It is others like you that are helping bring the warm thoughts of a grand Christmas to others.

This post has already had over 1000 views most from the few tweets we have had and searches from #Motrinmoms. Even though they have not commented I know that they at least have it in their mind.

We will make a difference this season, to many families.

Joyce,
Thanks for stopping in.

You are so right that we can all do simple things to help others. Not just at Christmas but, all year long.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded.

Always great to see the RoadCat!

Happy clicking!

Great idea. Kudos to you and Sharon.

At SWBN we are from Canada, Australia and the UK so we have created a blog post to let folks from our parts of the world know where they can take part: http://www.swbnetwork.com/blog/featured/twitter-for-children-this-christmas/

When I was a kid we had very little money but somehow mum always managed to provide some great presents. Mum was so good at finding low cost but fun and creative presents, so we may not have had the latest Fisher Price toy but it was OUR toys that got played with for months after Christmas by all our friends.

A gift is special at any age when it is given with love, especially if you have so little. And it may sound twee, but giving can be so much more rewarding than receiving.

My family and I adopt a family every year in our area.We gather food 6 months out of the year starting July 5th.of canned goods and other non parishables including shampoo, bath soap etc.We also buy a few toys as well as collect toys from individuals that are cleaning out their toy box, closet etc.of course the toys have to be clean and not broken. Then December 23rd.we purchase a canned ham and a turkey (Depending on the size of the family we have chosen)gather all the items and place them in painted or Christmas paper wrapped card board boxes. We then personaly deliver all the items collected December 24th.to that family with an invitation to our Childrens New Year party created through our neighbor hood watch association.

Lisa & SWBN ladies,
Thank you so much for posting charities in the UK, Australia, & Canada.

Moms all around the world are really the same. They want to see their kids with a smile.

These kids in need do not care if it is the latest and greatest toy, they just know that someone was thinking of them and that is what counts.

Thank you Lisa!

Lisa Simpkins,
That is a great idea!

You have a real family project at your house. That is something that your kids will always remember. They get to help make life better for others in their neighborhood. That is a tradition they can carry on their whole life.

Knowing you - I bet the smile on your face is huge, when you think about the other family having a cupboard of food and gifts for the kids!

Giving really is a joy.

Thanks for all you do Lisa!

Hi Sheryl

This is a great idea and I am so pleased that Lisa has chosen the salvation army toy appeal for the UK (Lisa put the link in earlier but will also try and add it here - http://www.swbnetwork.com/blog/featured/twitter-for-children-this-christmas/)
I work for a charity supporting homeless families & vulnerable families at risk of becoming homeless in the UK and many of our service users are benefiting from this toy appeal and also a local one that has been held for our area and I can really tell you that every child, Mum & Dad that I work with & who have needed this service in the past really appreciate everything their children receive.

When it becomes a choice for the parents between buying food or buying a Christmas Present (believe me, this is not abnormal) many of them choose the Christmas present because of the love of their children.

I imagine it is the same the whole world over, so thank you to everyone who donates to this appeal and thank you to everyone who tweets about it.

Hi Wayne,
I can imagine that many parents just really want to see a child have a Christmas present.
It is a shame that they would even have to choose.

I think you must meet some wonderful people and it would be hard to see them go without.

Thank you for donating your time to help out others. You know you are building up some great karma points. :)

I know that being broke and nothing in your cabinets could happens to any of us.

Have a wonderful holiday!!
