I am also using Gmail which filters most of the spam emails, still it is annoying to see so many spams coming each day. Sometimes I report spam emails which came to inbox folder hoping it might help other as well.

@Sire,
Yes, never hit Unsubscribe on blatant spam, then they know you opened it and they just send you thousands more. Almost all of those go in the spam folder and it is easier if I scan and clean that each day.

@Brian,
I do understand the different accounts and that can help.
Brad does the star thing, Lord help me if I ever have to go in there. I open an email 1 time, it either gets action, gets marked Unread, or Deleted. If it gets marked Unread then it is read, answered or sorted before bed.

@Karen,
Look through and if you see repeat sender names, that you signed up for and, never get opened, Unsubscribe! Next do a search and find all the mail from that person and mass delete. Keep doing that until you have gotten rid of the useless junk.

I have several Gmail accounts and use certain accounts for certain functions. Blog comments, ezine subscriptions, different blog/site emails and others. My spam is automatically deleted after 30 days but I clean it manually a few times a day just to be sure something important didn't get sent there.

Here's where mine gets out of control. My personal account's inbox has 3696 emails right now. Almost all have been opened. I should have been archiving them but I have a habit of adding a star for later then never getting back to it. Even with that I'm only using 533 MB (7%) of my 7324 MB gives me for that one account.

I get a fair bit of spam mail, sometimes in excess of 1000 a day. Luckily my spam filter catches the bulk of it. In regards to the unsubscribe link, someone once told me that you shouldn't click any on spam emails as this will only confirm that the address is legitimate, which will open to flood gates to more crap.

In regards to normal unwanted emails, by all means unsubscribe.
