Claiming Your Blog on Technorati

This post is for anyone with a new blog that has not Claimed it on Technorati.

I decided to write this post because Brad has a new blog and instead of me making accounts, claiming blogs, and doing tags. I thought it would be nice to just write down the instructions so, everyone (including Brad) could do it themselves.

Claiming your blog on Technorati is pretty easy to do. If you already have an account set up and have some of your blogs claimed then this post is just a reminder to add on an any new blogs and to check the tags on any old blogs.

New bloggers or those that do not have a Technorati account set up yet then this is a basic How To claim your blog.

Go to technorati.com,
Click ADVANCED next to the Search bar,
Here you can search by URL.

If they do not have your blog listed - if you already have an account you can log in to do the claim process.

If you are not yet a member then click the Join button.

It only takes a few minutes to fill in the blanks and be on your way to claiming your blog.

I suggest to fill out the Bio & put a picture on your profile. Sometimes I forget names but, can just glance & recognize an avatar of a favorite blogger, tweeter, forum member, or commenter…

To Claim your new blog – click the CLAIM BLOG tab (bet you guessed that)!
You will place the URL to your new blog in the box,
Scroll down & you will see a CODE,
Take that code & publish a NEW Post with only that code in the post (once claimed then you can delete the post).
Once you have made the post go back to your Technorati page & click COMPLETE CLAIM.

It states that this process normally takes less than an hour.
You will then see your blog listed on your profile.

Once your blog is Claimed then you will need to Click on the Text that says BLOGS (right under the word Technorati),
This will give you a dropdown,
Click MY BLOGS,

Click the tab labeled CLAIMED BLOGS,
Now you will see EDIT SETTINGS (next to the blogs name),
Here you can put in a mini description of 250 characters max,
You will also want to scroll down & list up to 18 of your KEYWORDS!

If you want you can also grab a button to place on your blog so, people can favorite it. That is totally up to you.
Personally, I have never clicked to favorite a blog from one of these buttons, I never even notice them.

BEFORE you leave that page – go to the bottom of the Page & click SAVE BLOG INFO!

have now claimed your blog – whoohooo!

Oh yeah, while you are there you should click to Favorite My Blog on Technorati

If you would like Widgets, buttons, info, the Technorati tool bar.. You can find all of those things on the Technorati Widgets Page

I am not sure that Technorati has the same amount of pull they once had but, no reason not to go ahead and claim your blog.

Many old bloggers still love Technorati and we never want to piss off old bloggers!

If you have not heard about the new Technorati Self Serve Ads for Blogs, be sure to click that link so, you are in the loop. ;)

Ok, I am finished.

Leave a nice comment, Stumble, Digg, Tweet… and all those other things you do for those you love.

EDIT - 10/14/09 Technorati is doing updates to their site. They seem to have screwed up a few things.
:) Joy!
The widget that I have posted here with the list of my fav blogs is one of the things messed up.
In fact when I was at Tecnorati today, All of my favorites are gone. Most of my profile was gone, I did get the About Me back up but, it would not take a profile picture.
Some accounts seem to be missing or deleted, See the comments in Welcome to the New Technorati.
I will try to check back in & see IF they get some of the site 'back' once they work out the bugs from their update.

Ching YaHi Sheryl,
It's great that you made a thorough post about Technorati. Frankly quite a lot of new bloggers are not aware of how to use Technorati to publicize their blogs and extend their authority. Personally, I've been using Technorati for quite awhile now, but after the domain change I lost all my authority (sadly..), started afresh but after WP migration, the authority has never updated since... as long as I can remember. I can only wish Technorati team can reply to my complaint the soonest.

Appreciate you dropping by the other day. ^^ Nice meeting you.

SireGood post Sheryl, but truthfully I've lost interest in Technorati. Ages ago I discovered that whatever link juice you got from them was lost after a certain amount of time, and recently I've just discovered that they no longer take notice of Blogroll links.

Having said that, people should still join because there are other benefits from being a member.

What is sugar? Man I hope I get that one right. ROLF, I got it wrong!!!

SherylHello Ching Ya,
You have a great blog going, I am sure you will build everything up really fast.

Sire,
I know that Technorati is not what it once was. I still think there is value (especially since it is free).

I had to put a stupid question in because some idiots released a new blog comment spam tool. I got freakin pounded. I figure if I have it a little while then I will get off the list of blogs to hit. I run Askmit but, the comments were coming in & getting sent to moderation & there was to much crap from assorted IP's. So far I have gotten 0 auto comments since I put the question on. YEAH!

Brian D. HawkinsI faved your blog and all three favorites that are under your blog but it shows you have zero fans. Technorati is very confusing. I've never understood the whole authority thing. I think Brad has the right idea, it's a good thing to outsource this kind of thing.

You could setup a service that would setup and build things like Technorati and StumleUpon. I would be one of your first customers.

OMG, What is sugar? I'm not smart enough to pass the antispam test lol
