Clean Out Your Inbox

Inbox Spring Cleaning (at least on this side of the world).

I have watched people on Twitter say they have 1000+ emails in their inbox. Ummm, is that for a day? How can you possibly sort through that many emails and find the ones that may be potential customers, need immediate response, or are the DNA results as to if you are the father of Octomoms kids?

Just think if your postman brought that much useless mail to your house each day!

Ok, Gmail has filters. GREAT! They do save time but, if they are junk then why waste the space?

If you are like me you have signed up for some news letters, ezines, or free reports and now get email from a gazillion people.

**Take a bit of time today and open some of those emails that you normally just delete.

**Think back to when was the last time that person sent you some real information that you wanted.

**Do they send what you were expecting when you signed up?

**Do they only send ads that you have no interest in?

**Or are many of the emails from the ‘big boys’ that all they ever send is the next BIG Launch? Yes, I have about 10 that all send the same Big Launch. They are all part of the Guru Circle Jerk. They just fill your inbox with their buddies’ new program because their new launch is coming soon and they want to make sure they have done their back scratching.

All of these emails should have an Unsubscribe link ? USE IT!

Trust me if you decide later that you miss their email, you can sign up again. I have never inserted my email address in a box and gotten a message say ‘Sorry you are not allowed to be put back on my list’.

Just think of all the time you will save by only having mail that you do want to read in your box!

Now, do this TODAY! At least mark your calendar for a day to get this done. Yes, get a pen and write it on a calendar! Stop putting it off, the time you spend sorting and Unsubscribing will save you time in the long run.

Ps. If you are like me, you think of doing a mass inbox cleaning every time you see all the junk but, just wait until tomorrow. I figured I’d just tell you to do it and see if that works. LOL!

I get a fair bit of spam mail, sometimes in excess of 1000 a day. Luckily my spam filter catches the bulk of it. In regards to the unsubscribe link, someone once told me that you shouldn't click any on spam emails as this will only confirm that the address is legitimate, which will open to flood gates to more crap.

In regards to normal unwanted emails, by all means unsubscribe.

I have several Gmail accounts and use certain accounts for certain functions. Blog comments, ezine subscriptions, different blog/site emails and others. My spam is automatically deleted after 30 days but I clean it manually a few times a day just to be sure something important didn't get sent there.

Here's where mine gets out of control. My personal account's inbox has 3696 emails right now. Almost all have been opened. I should have been archiving them but I have a habit of adding a star for later then never getting back to it. Even with that I'm only using 533 MB (7%) of my 7324 MB gives me for that one account.

Help Me Obi-Sheryl-Wan! I'm drowning in a sea of Gmail accounts with thousands of Spam and massive amounts of unopened mail.

@Sire,
Yes, never hit Unsubscribe on blatant spam, then they know you opened it and they just send you thousands more. Almost all of those go in the spam folder and it is easier if I scan and clean that each day.

@Brian,
I do understand the different accounts and that can help.
Brad does the star thing, Lord help me if I ever have to go in there. I open an email 1 time, it either gets action, gets marked Unread, or Deleted. If it gets marked Unread then it is read, answered or sorted before bed.

@Karen,
Look through and if you see repeat sender names, that you signed up for and, never get opened, Unsubscribe! Next do a search and find all the mail from that person and mass delete. Keep doing that until you have gotten rid of the useless junk.

I am also using Gmail which filters most of the spam emails, still it is annoying to see so many spams coming each day. Sometimes I report spam emails which came to inbox folder hoping it might help other as well.
