How to use Your Skype

Part 1 - Get Your Skype On

Part 2 Setting Up Your Skype

When you first get skype you will have no contacts to call or text with. If you already know people that are using skype you can easily add them.

If you are looking to add someone you can click the ADD button listed in the Contact Tab.

This will pop up a new window. Simply put in the persons Full Name, Skype Name, or Email address. This will bring up the users that fit your criteria. If are looking for ‘Bill Jones’ you may get a list of 60 people with that name in their profile. From there you can narrow down to the correct one by looking at location or skype name. Once you have found your correct person, click on their name and it will high light it in blue. Now, at the bottom of the window, click ADD CONTACT. This will give you a window so you can write them a message to send on the ‘may I add you as a contact’. The user at the other end will get your invite to be added and they will have the option to add or decline. You do NOT have to add everyone. You have the choice as to who is on your list.

Now that you have a contact, how to communicate with them.
If you have your setting set like mine then here we go.
You can click on the name of the contact you wish to text or call, you can see their status next to their name. It will pop open their name, here you will see 3 buttons. Green Phone to voice call, Blue text to chat, and a Menu. You can also double click on a name and I will bring up a new window and you can start writing your message. If you click the Green Phone it will start ringing the call immediately.

The MENU dropdown box – Here is where you can Remove or Block a person that is not wanted on your list. Ok, there are other things also but, I wanted to point those out right away. You can also Send a File from here. So, if you have a picture, document, spreadsheet… That you need to send to the other person click SEND FILE. This will give you a pop up so you can locate the correct file and send. They will be notified and have the choice as to accept or cancel. Never accept a file that you are not expecting!

From the MENU you can also send one persons contact info to another person. So, if I am chatting with Cait on my list and she also needs to be in contact with Lisa, I can go to Cait’s MENU click, Send Contact, click on Lisa’s name, click Add, then Send. Cait will get Lisa’s info in her chat window. There she can click the Green Add button and send Lisa an invite.

Ok, I think this pretty much covers it.
Oops, I almost forgot, If you think that you are going to get people to sign up or buy products from you by sending ads to your skype list- think again! This will just piss people off and they will block you in no time! Use the skype as a tool to get to know people, chat with, or even help each other out. Do not be labeled as a skype spammer.
I know that a few companies have come out with software so you can get a ‘target list’ and send your ad to hundreds of people all at once. My advice is do not do it! Even if later you figure out that you were an ass for spamming people it is to late. They have already blocked you and think of you as a spammer. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Hi Sheryl,
Thanks for taking the time to actually write all of that down and share it with us. I have bookmarked it and may even share it with a couple of friends!
All the best,
Mary

Hi Mary,
Nice to see you again.

I have written bits and pieces of this a hundred times when trying to help someone get Skype set up. Thought it might just be smarter to write it all out at once so, people can send others this link rather than typing it themselves each time.
If someone has questions they can always just leave a comment and I will try to answer.

I am finding it very handy myself! LOL!

Skype has become a huge part of not only marketing but, also a great way for family and friends to keep in contact for free. It seems like it's my family and friends that may not be to techie and this post will help them.

Have a wonderful day Mary!

Hi

I wonder if someone can help me. I received an invite to have someone on my skype as a contact and I declined as I don't want anything to do with this person.

I wanted to know if on their end it would show that I have declined them as a contact.

Your will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
BB

Hello BB,
As far as I know the invite just goes away and you do not show up as a contact if you have declined. I do not think they get any message telling them you have declined.

They may continue to send invites until you accept or block them.

Hope this helps,
Sheryl
