We did an introduction test a few years back on forum boards. For a couple months we only commented on, posted in, and interacted in the introduction sections on forum boards. Ok we stuck our neck out once in a while to comment or help people on other threads a little bit. The results were almost unbelievable.
The programs we were involved with really didn’t matter; we have Sig-Lines if people were interested in that stuff. The most rewarding results were from the interaction with others. We really got to know a bunch of great people, yes real people. We talked about families, work, where they lived, hobbies, the weather, you name it. One of the most productive moves we ever made, and fun to.
Networking has been around forever, the same basic value has never really changed although the principals have been abused to some extent. If you get 5 or 6 people that trust you, value you, and your tribe will grow.
Be the best at what you do and share it. If you are the best at being you, that’s all you need. Of course everyone should be the best at who they are and forget trying to be the best at being someone else. You have value as you, pull down the walls and Expose Yourself. Everyone has value, including you. If you network without expectations you will be totally amazed at what great things come to you.
A true friend is someone that knows you for who you are and still likes you.
My point is to use what you have, to interact as people not the products you represent. Take interest in people for who they are, trust me doing that is such an odd thing these days people have no choice but to take notice.
The introduction test was a total success, here are a few tips.
Sit down and actually write about yourself and where you have been. You can add to and improve on your intro here and there as you see fit.
Save your introduction and keep it on file and handy for quick reference. Be prepared always.
If you are on any sites and you have put your business and products in you’re about me. Remove them and replace them, no one cares what you sell. There are hundreds others out there with the same program. If you really want success you need to stand out as you.
Trust me I’m not the best at writing that is for sure. Writing about myself was something that I really wasn't comfortable with at all. Then one day someone had mentioned if you meet someone on the phone or in a bar, what questions do you ask them to make conversation? write those questions down and answer them yourself. Well the bar thing worked for me, with all my prior seat time I really had no problem with the questions. Cheers!
