A few tips you might like when deciding to set up your Seesmic Desktop for Twittering.
I have been a fan of Tweetdeck since the night they released. I still think it is a great way to monitor Twitter. The only problem with TweetDeck is me!
I needed away to see multiple accounts without signing into and out of Twitter or Tweetdeck. This also meant that if I had a tweet that I wanted to send out of my business account I would have to log out of my personal account, log in as the business account….
After watching people talk about a new Twitter application called Seesmic Desktop so, I went and checked it out! At that time it would let you log in, watch, and tweet from multiple account off of the one application but, it did not have the ‘group’ ability. The group is something I really needed.
Seesmic has been working to improve their Twitter desktop app to help us get what we need. Last night I checked it out again and gave it a download to try out! It is a little different from Tweetdeck but, I am giving it a whirl.
I want to give you a few Tips so you aren’t totally lost when setting up your Seesmic Desktop for Twitter. Most things are very self explanatory if you just play with the application for a bit but, I was caught by a couple of ‘oddities’.
*It is an Adobe Air application so you will need to download that if you haven’t already.
Once you have your Seesmic downloaded you will see that you can add a Username – After adding it you will be ask for that users Password, then click SAVE!
Now your desktop will open, you will have 1 column of Tweets for the username you have listed. On the Left Side you will see a ‘Control Panel’ in that column is where you will see that you can Add More Usernames. Here is where you can Add Your FaceBook account and receive your Facebook updates right on Seesmic Desktop. You can also make Groups of people you follow.
Anytime you add a new username or make a group you will need to take that column and move it to the right by Drag and Drop. If you do not move it the column will disappear and the new column you make will take its place.
If you are @ (replying) to a user from a certain account it automatically sends the tweet from that account BUT, if you are just going to write a tweet, you need to make sure that you double check to see if the avatar next to writing area belongs to the account you want to send the tweet from. You will know what I mean once you look at it. You can change account name with the small drop down menu at the top.
To send DM’s, Replies, Retweet is under each person’s avatar just like in TweetDeck. You also have the little ‘gear’ where you can Follow, UnFollow, Report as Spam, or ad to a User List.
Also under each column you will see the icons that enable you to see the @ (Replies), DM’s, Favorites…For that Twitter account. Replies will show up tinted Blue and DM’s are Green.
Here is the super BIGGIE! The FREAKIN SOUND!! Make it STOP!
Down in the very left bottom you will see a small gear icon – click to open and there are your settings. Here is where you can find the Notifications tab. You can adjust the volume of the notifications or just Uncheck the Sound so it does NOT make noise. Be sure to click the Save after any adjustments.
What I do NOT like is there is no filter, like on Tweetdeck. I LOVE that I could filter for a certain word in the Tweet Stream. I normally have a few times each day when I set the filter with HTTP and then can scan through the list of tweets that sent links and have it take out all the other general stuff.
Ok, if you have more than 1 Twitter account you may want to give this a try.
I still have TweetDeck installed so I can use the filter for snagging links. I will weigh out if being signed into multiple accounts, on Seesmic, is worth it or if I just use Tweetdeck for my main account and log into the others from the web when I need to.
Have fun!

When you go to Seesmic and watch the video - that dude is like Vin Diesel with an accent.
