Membership Sites are on the Rise

I have been seeing that membership sites are on the rise. I think there are a few reasons for this.

Pay membership forum or networking site ?

* Spammers will not pay to join and post at a membership site.

* Having a pay membership site also helps the site owner keep the site up.

* Many people had been selling ebooks and now they are using paid sites as a way to get paid for their information (or service). So, you can have special areas only paying members have access to.

These are the reasons we have behind setting up The Internet Marketers Guild as a Pay site.

Membership Blog or News site ?

I do know of a few News Paper sites where you have to pay a subscription to read. Others give you just a few articles if you do not have a paid subscription. That of course is because who would buy a paper when they can just jump online and read it for free.

I now have a Natural health site that I have been an avid reader of for years that has become a membership type site. Mike Adams of Natural News has had a few problems with scrappers lately and I believe this is why he has implemented the membership factor. Now, at Mike’s site you need to register your email to read his complete articles. When you go to his site you will be allowed to read about ? the article and then you just place your email address in to be allowed to read the rest. Yes, he is building a list while doing this. I do not mind as I have been on his mailing list for a long time and he has never sent spam. He does send an email with links and a mini description to his latest post. So, it is sort of like signing up on many other blogs. Pretty smart idea he has. I think the fact that Mike already has millions of readers that know and trust him makes it an easy transitions into a membership site.

I am bringing this up because I have seen a few other people thinking about how they can get more out of their site. Both blogs and forums are a great way for people to learn from others yet, the owners do a lot of work and now understand their own value.

Would you consider making your blog a membership only type of site?
